Molecular Dynamics investigations in to Water-Organosolv Cosolvent Pretreatments of Lignocellulosic Biomass
Lignocellulose is a widely available, sustainable, source of carbon for biofuels and biomaterials; however, its natural recalcitrance prevents its adoption as an economically viable feedstock. In this talk, I present a number of computational results highlighting the potential use of Water-Organosolv cosolvent pretreatments that may reduce lignocellulosic recalcitrance. To that end, I will discuss the how THF influences hemicellulose behavior, as well as how THF, GVL, Acetone, and Ethanol-water mixtures influence the dissociation of lignin aggregates and lignin-cellulose complexes.
